When abnormal operating conditions occur, the energy stored in the piston accumulators supplies the necessary power to sustain the entire steel‑tapping process.
As an emergency power‑release device, the accumulator system typically does not participate in the cylinder’s real‑time motion; instead, it supplies all actuators with full‑stroke energy during a power outage. The accumulator capacity usually ranges from 300 to 1,000 liters, depending on the furnace’s tonnage. In this application, to optimize system cost, accumulator sizing is often performed by simulating the piston positioned at the gas‑side end cap. This approach enables the largest possible emergency actuation stroke during a power failure while minimizing the overall system footprint.
